Awesome Unlikeliest Album and Music Offers

The Ig Nobel Prizes 2: An All-New Collection of the World's Unlikeliest Research (Ignobel)
The hilarious second installment of the popular humor series honoring the world’s most improbable actual research

The first volume of The Ig Nobel Prizes was celebrated as a “brainy bacchanalian” (USA Today) and “so funny you couldn’t make it up” (The Washington Post). Now, the “guru of scientific satire” (Publishers Weekly), Marc Abrahams, returns with The Ig Nobel Prizes 2, a fresh compendium of all- new unbelievable-but-true accomplishments in the sciences, arts, and humanities.

Born from the annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony at Harvard University, The Ig Nobel Prizes 2 demonstrates the incredible lengths to which people will go in the pursuit of knowledge. Winners of this prestigious award include:
-The scientists who discovered that chickens prefer beautiful humans
-The Norwegian research team that documented the impact of wearing wet underwear in the cold
-The entire nation of Liechtenstein, which rents itself out for weddings, bar mitzvahs, or other gatherings.

Featuring anecdotes from the 2004 Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony and a zany collection of all new achievements, The Ig Nobel Prizes 2 is perfect for anyone who first wants to laugh and then wants to think.

Praise for The Ig Nobel Prizes:
“[The Ig Nobel Prizes] honor achievements that are truly extraordinary, whether they be awful, wonderful, or a hopeless mixture of both.... Where others might see evil, perversion, or stupidity, Abrahams finds only admirable persistence.”

Cork Boat: A True Story of the Unlikeliest Boat Ever Built
165,321 corks
1 boat

Most people have childhood dreams; few ever pursue them. At the age of 34, John Pollack quit a prestigious speechwriting job on Capitol Hill to pursue an idea he had harbored since the age of six: to build a boat out of wine corks and take it on an epic journey

In Cork Boat, Pollack tells the charming and uplifting story of this unlikely adventure. Overcoming one obstacle after another, he convinces skeptical bartenders to save corks, corrals a brilliant but disorganized partner, and cajoles more than a hundred volunteers to help build the boat, many until their fingers bleed. Hired as a speechwriter for President Clinton midway through construction, Pollack soon has the White House saving corks, too. Ultimately, he and his crew set sail down the Douro River in Portugal, where the boat becomes a national sensation. Written with unusual grace and disarming humor, Cork Boat is a buoyant tale of camaraderie, determination, and the power of imagination..

Marie Dressler: The Unlikeliest Star
She was homely, overweight, and over the hill, but there was a time when Marie Dressler outdrew such cinema sex symbols as Garbo, Dietrich, and Harlow. To movie audiences suffering the hardships of the Great Depression, she was Everywoman, and in the early 1930s her charming mixture of pathos and comedy packed movie theaters She left home at the age of fourteen, apprenticed as an eight-dollar-a-week chorus girl in touring stock and light opera companies, then danced and sang her way to stardom in Broadway musical comedy, vaudeville, and burlesque. She perfected her stagecraft on the Great White Way, and though she longed to play great dramatic roles, she realized early that if she was going to make it big she would have to do it on talent, not looks. In the early days of the century, Dressler was constantly in the headlines. She took up the cause of the "ponies" in the chorus lines, earning them better pay and benefits. She played in productions organized to raise money for the women's suffrage movement. And during World War I she sold more liberty bonds than any other individual in the United States -- more than Chaplin, Pickford, or Fairbanks. She suffered from fevered dreams of entrepreneurship -- none successful but all of them daring -- but in acting, Dressler was an astute observer of public mood and taste. When she was lucky enough to find work in the newly minted Hollywood talkies, she grabbed the brass ring with fierce enthusiasm, even making three films in the year before her death, when she was so sick she had to rest between scenes on a sofa just out of camera range. The two-hundred-pound actress's remarkable stage presence captivated audiences even though her roleswere not Hollywood beauties but tough, practical characters such as the old wharf rat in Anna Christie (1930), the waterfront innkeeper in Min and Bill (1931) -- for which she won the Academy Award for best actress -- the aging housekeeper in Emma (1932), and the title role in Tugboat Annie (1933). She spoke honestly to her audiences, and troubled people in the comforting darkness of the Depression-era movie theaters embraced her as one of their own..

Reflections on the Movies: Hearing God in the Unlikeliest of Places (Reflective Living Series)
Can a movie feed your soul?

Stories. Be it a parable of Jesus, a C.S. Lewis fantasy, or a movie such as Saving Private Ryan, stories have been around since Creation, a means of both education and entertainment By far, our favorite way to listen to a story today is at the movies, whether in a theater or a family room. Indeed, says Ken Gire, movies are the parables of our culture—earthly stories that sometimes have heavenly meanings.

Can we discern God's voice in the modern parables of film? Yes, it is there, sometimes loud and crystal-clear, sometimes barely a whisper, sometimes even despite the filmmaker's intent. In Reflections on the Movies, Ken helps us:

• sensitize our "eyes to hear and ears to hear" God speaking,
• develop the skills to understand movies and their themes, and
• learn to reflect on the medium as a form of spiritual enrichment.

In 1999, Ken was one of thirty Christians selected for a month-long study under some of the film industry's top talent in Hollywood. He has led numerous spiritual retreats where he has used movie clips to illustrate his messages.

Reflections on the Movies and Ken's previous books in this series—The Reflective Live, Reflections on the Word, a devotional, and Reflections on Your Life, a journal—are designed to help you become more spiritually sensitive to the everyday moments of life.
