A Humument: A Treated Victorian Novel, Fourth Edition
In the mid-1960s, inspired by William Burroughs's "cut-up" writing technique, Tom Phillips bought an obscure Victorian novel for three pence—W. H. Mallock's 1892 novel, A Human Document. He began cutting and pasting the extant text, treating the pages with gouache and ink, isolating the words that interested him while scoring out unwanted words or painting over them. The result was A Humument, and the first version appeared in 1970. The artist writes, "I plundered, mined, and undermined its text to make it yield the ghosts of other possible stories, scenes, poems, erotic incidents, and surrealist catastrophes which seemed to lurk within its wall of words. As I worked on it, I replaced the text I'd stripped away with visual images of all kinds. It began to tell and depict, among other memories, dreams, and reflections, the sad story of Bill Toge, one of love's casualties." After its first publication in book form in 1980, A Humument rapidly became a cult classic. Phillips has continued to revisit Mallock's novel, and this new fourth edition follows its predecessors by incorporating revisions and reworkings—over a hundred pages are replaced by new versions—and celebrates an artistic enterprise that is itself some forty years old and still actively a work in progress. 368 color illustrations..

100 Diseases Treated by Single Point of Acupuncture Moxibustion
Single point therapy is an independent treatment method, derived from acupuncture and moxibustion It refers to the application of stimulation at one point or one small local area of the superficial of the body in order to treat and prevent diseases. Single point therapy consists of many methods of acupuncture and moxibustion, such as acupuncture, moxibustion, auricular acupuncture, head acupuncture, cupping therapy, bleeding therapy, point injection and laser therapy. It also consists of medicated compress, acupressure and massage, which are exceptional category of acupuncture and moxibustion. Single point therapy uses fewer points with less pain, and easy to master, with good and quick effect. This book introduces different therapies for the treatment of 100 common diseases by single acupoint, including the point, location, method, result, case study and discussion, with the author's personal experiences. DSM-IV-TR Casebook, Volume 2: Experts Tell How They Treated Their Own Patients
The groundbreaking DSM-IV-TR® Casebook, Volume 2: Experts Tell How They Treated Their Own Patients is unique among casebooks because—unlike other casebooks (including the editors' own previous casebook), which include descriptions of cases from clinical practice, discussions of the differential diagnosis, and suggested treatments—it features experts who go beyond the standard case description by detailing their own treatment approaches in interesting cases from their own practices. A must-have for every mental health care student, educator, and professional, this fascinating casebook features - A remarkable 53 expert contributors, selected with great care by the editors to ensure that their case studies span the full range of psychological, psychosocial, and pharmacological treatment approaches.
- An unprecedented 33 case studies divided into 14 sections, with topics ranging from illnesses first diagnosed in infancy, childhood, or adolescence—including an illuminating study of childhood bipolar disorder—to illnesses of old age, such as delirium and dementia.
- Unparalleled depth of detail, in that every case study includes a summary of the patient's presenting symptoms, problems, history of present illness and past history, the expert's differential diagnosis and reasons for choosing a particular therapy, their initial treatment goals, how they explained the treatment to the patient and the patient's reaction, what actually went on in the sessions, the expert's thoughts and feelings during the treatment process, and how the patient changed over time.
- An unmatched range of topics, including case studies of mental disorders due to a general medical condition, substance abuse disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, somatoform and factitious disorders, dissociative disorders, sexual and gender identity disorders, eating disorders, and impulse-control and personality disorders.
- A logical structure that promotes ease of use in that these all-new case studies are presented in the order in which the diagnoses appear in the DSM-IV-TR classification; cases can be located by diagnosis, treatment modality, case name, or clinician.
DSM-IV-TR® Casebook, Volume 2: Experts Tell How They Treated Their Own Patients is simply the essential casebook for mental health care students, residents, educators, professionals, and interested laypersons everywhere..

"They Treated Us Just Like Indians": The Worlds of Bennett County, South Dakota (Studies in the Anthropology of North Ame)
On a typical day in Bennett County, South Dakota, farmers and ranchers work their fields and tend animals, merchants order inventory and stock shelves, teachers plan and teach classes, health workers aid the infirm in the county hospital or clinic, and women make quilts and heirlooms for their families or the county fair. Life is usually unhurried, with time for chatting with neighbors and catching up on gossip. But Bennett County is far from typical. Nearly a century ago the county was carved out of Pine Ridge Reservation and opened to white settlers. Today Bennett County sits awkwardly between the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Sioux Reservations, with nearly one-third of its land classified as "Indian Country" and the rest considered by many Pine Ridge Lakotas to still belong to the reservation. The county is home to a dynamic population, divided by the residents into three groups—"whites," "fullbloods," and "mixedbloods." Tensions between the three groups lurk admid the quiet harmony of Bennett County's everyday rural life and emerge in moments of community crisis. In a moving account, anthropologist Paula L. Wagoner tells the story of Bennett County, using snapshots of community events and crises, past and present, to reveal the complexity of race relations and identities there. A homecoming weekend at Bennett County High School becomes a flashpoint for controversy because of the differences of meaning ascribed by the county's three identity groups to the school's team name—the Warriors. At another time, the shooting of a Lakota man by a local non-Indian rancher and the volatile wake that follows demonstrate the impulse to racialize disputes that lies just beneath the surface of everyday life. Yet such very real problems of identity have not completely overwhelmed Bennett County. Wagoner also shows that despite their differences, residents have managed to find common ground as a region of "diverse insiders" who share an economic dependency on federal funds, distrust outsiders, and, above all, deeply love their land. .

Stark Effect In A Hydrogenic Atom Or Ion: Treated by the Phase-Integral Method with Adjoined Papers by A Hökback and P O Fröman
This book treats the Stark effect of a hydrogenic atom or ion in a homogeneous electric field. It begins with a thorough review of previous work in this field since 1926. After the Schrodinger equation has been separated with respect to time dependence, centre of mass motion and internal motion, followed by a discussion of its eigenfunctions, the exact development in time of the probability amplitude for a decaying state is obtained by means of a formula analogous to the Fock Krylov theorem. From this formula one obtains by means of the phase-integral approximation generated from a particular base function non-relativistic formulas for profiles, energies and half-widths of the Stark levels. These formulas are then transformed into formulas expressed in terms of complete elliptic integrals. The formulas thus obtained are used for the calculation of energies and half-widths of 198 different Stark states, which are compared with the corresponding results obtained by other authors with the use of other methods. An analysis of this material indicates that the energy values obtained by the phase-integral method are at least as accurate as those obtained by other methods in more than half of the 198 cases. The book presents one of the most comprehensive asymptotic treatments of the Stark effect in atomic hydrogen that have been published. Contents: - Schrodinger Equation, its Separation and its Exact Eigenfunctions;
- Development in Time of the Probability Amplitude for a Decaying State;
- Phase-Integral Method;
- Derivation of Phase-Integral Formulas for Profiles, Energies and Half-Widths of Stark Levels;
- Procedure for Transformation of the Phase-Integral Formulas into Formulas Involving Complete Elliptic Integrals;
- Phase-Integral Quantities and Their Partial Derivatives with Respect to E and Z1 Expressed in Terms of Complete Elliptic Integrals.
