Handology: Character Revealed, Destiny Mastered
Biography of Gerald E. Picard by Maurice Simms

…..Researcher writer and author Gerald E. Picard has spent more than 28 years developing Handology™ - a term he coined - based on the science of chirognomy He has interviewed thousands of people - young and old, men and women - and has visited senior citizens homes, hospitals, jails, and shelters for victims of spousal abuse. Since 1989 Handology™ has been re-published with new research allowing anyone the simplicity of interpreting the changing and permanent genetic markers of the hand (fingers, thumb and creases etc) altered by one’s own inconstant and traumatic lifestyles. Like an encyclopedia, Handology™ can analyze and interpret any hand.

.......Says Gerald, "Your hands can not only reveal strengths, weaknesses, character and health etc. but also project destiny based on past and present lifestyle." Gerald claims with Handology™, "anyone can now avoid pitfalls, understand where you are going in life and take charge as never before." I became interested in developing a concept whereby I could help people with their social, medical and personal problems while being 100% unbiased (no questionnaires) in a detailed report.

Picard also says.......the ancient world recognized there are things to be learned by looking at a person’s hands. Says Picard, "In the original Hebrew book of Job, chapter 37, verse seven, it says, ‘God caused signs or seals on the hands of all sons of men, that the sons of men might know their works.’"

The author's ability to work in a computer research facility allowed me the ability of learning computer programming skills (strict method of organization w/codes) that was instrumental and played a major role of ergonomically designing a a standard method of analyzing the human hand.

The result was Handology™, a term he coined to describe his lifetime's work.

"We now have a standard, easy step-by-step method for analyzing hands no matter how unique or difficult the hand may be to analyze," says Gerald. "Anyone can extract and interpret the hand simply by matching what is in the hand to what is in the book, recording numbers on a worksheet and then looking up the relevant Descriptions." Gerald was born in Creston, British Columbia, Canada..

Mastered by the Clock: Time, Slavery, and Freedom in the American South (Fred W. Morrison Series in Southern Studies)
Mastered by the Clock is the first work to explore the evolution of clock-based time consciousness in the American South. Challenging traditional assumptions about the plantation economy's reliance on a premodern, nature-based conception of time, Mark M. Smith shows how and why southerners—particularly masters and their slaves—came to view the clock as a legitimate arbiter of time.

Drawing on an extraordinary range of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century archival sources, Smith demonstrates that white southern slaveholders began to incorporate this new sense of time in the 1830s. Influenced by colonial merchants' fascination with time thrift, by a long-held familiarity with urban, public time, by the transport and market revolution in the South, and by their own qualified embrace of modernity, slaveowners began to purchase timepieces in growing numbers, adopting a clock-based conception of time and attempting in turn to instill a similar consciousness in their slaves.

But, forbidden to own watches themselves, slaves did not internalize this idea to the same degree as their masters, and slaveholders found themselves dependent as much on the whip as on the clock when enforcing slaves' obedience to time. Ironically, Smith shows, freedom largely consolidated the dependence of masters as well as freedpeople on the clock..
