From the supplier: The IRS has not provided guidance on whether capitalization or current deductibility treatment is correct for food industry slotting fees which manufacturers pay to retailers for marketing purposes. The US Supreme Court's decision in INDOPCO, Inc. may help to determine whether application of IRC deduction section 162 or capitalization section 263 is appropriate.

Advertising expenditures can be capitalized ... well at least sometimes.: An article from: The National Public Accountant
This digital document is an article from The National Public Accountant, published by National Society of Public Accountants on October 1, 1997. The length of the article is 1965 words. The page length shown above is based on a typical 300-word page. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Digital Locker immediately after purchase. From the supplier: The process of accounting for advertising expenditures depends on the type of advertisement employed by a company. In direct-response advertising, the costs incurred in such activities as artwork are capitalized as the main purpose in this type of advertising is to enhance customer patronage and that returns are expected from it. Capitalization is followed by amortization of the advertising costs. In other types of advertising, the costs are expensed either during the time the expenditures were incurred or during the advertising activity itself.
