Welcome to Oz: A Cinematic Approach to Digital Still Photography with Photoshop (VOICES)
"Vincent Versace is a Renaissance man who has produced the best how-to book of the year! With its subtitle of “A Cinematic Approach to Digital Still Photography with Photoshop” Versace introduces a system for creating images that owes as much to the traditional darkroom as the digital one. Don’t just read the book; study it. The first chapter isn’t called “The Tao of Dynamic Workflow” for nothing and, like the rest of the book, contains Versace’s charm, wit, and wisdom. It’s copiously illustrated with detailed step-by-step examples of techniques that when applied to your own work will turn you from zero to hero. The fact that he’s a heck of a photographer means the book is stunningly illustrated, but it’s also been well designed. It has become a cliché to say that a book could change your life, but this one could." -- Joe Farace, December, 2007 , Shutterbug, Top Digital Books Of 2007; More & Better Digital Imaging Books Creating memorable photographs is a process that starts before you edit an image in Photoshop, before you capture the image, even before you pick up the camera. You must first approach the subject with the proper sense of perception, with the ability to visualize the finished print before you commit a scene to pixels, but still be flexible and spontaneous. Master Fine Art photographer Vincent Versace has spent his career learning and teaching the art of perception and how to translate it into stunning images. In Welcome to Oz, he delves into what it means to approach digital photography cinematically, to use your perception, your camera, and Photoshop to capture the movement of life in a still image. - Adapt your workflow to the image so you always know how best to use your tools
- Turn a seemingly impossible photographic scenario into a successful image
- Practice “image harvesting” to combine the best parts of many captures to create an optimum final result
- Create black and white prints that have the look, feel and “richness” of traditional silver prints without ever leaving the RGB color space

Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History
Two months before Andrew Cunanan murdered Gianni Versace on the steps of his Miami Beach mansion, Maureen Orth was investigating a major story on the serial killer for Vanity Fair. Now the award-winning journalist and Vanity Fair special correspondent tells the complete story of Cunanan, his unwitting victims, and the moneyed, hedonistic world in which they lived and died, culled from interviews with over 400 people, and details from thousands of pages of police reports. In chilling detail, Maureen Orth reveals how Andrew Cunanan met his superstar victim...why police and the FBI repeatedly failed to catch Cunanan...why other victims' families stonewalled the investigation...controversial findings of the Versace autopsy report, and more. Here is a late-century odyssey that races across America from California's wealthy gay underworld to modest midwestern homes of families mourning their slaughtered sons to the celebration of decadence that is Versace's South Beach. The Art and Craft of Gianni Versace
Published to accompany a major exhibition of the work of Gianni Versace at the Victoria and Albert Museum, this book provides a glittering retrospective of one of the 20th century's most innovative and enigmatic designers. Always flamboyant and outrageous, Versace's imaginative and intelligent collections drew inspiration from pop culture and the street, as well as from his impressive knowledge of art and fashion. His work is seen here from two different but complementary perspectives - Art and Craft. "Art" lays out a glamorous array of designs, from asymmetric tailored suits to flamboyant print dresses, garments in leather and metal mesh, gorgeous evening wear and exotic theatre designs. Scattered through the pages are pictures of some of Versace's most famous clients: Liz Hurley in the notorious safety pin dress and Princess Diana. But the real stars are the exquisite designs themselves, created to flatter the female form and to lend panache to the male wardrobe. Understated elegance was not Versace's aim: his clothes stand out from the crowd, demanding to be admired, and are featured here in stunning, specially commissioned photographs. "Craft" looks at Versace's highly inventive use of materials, such as Oroton, the metal mesh he created which can be draped like the finest silk. Other innovative techniques include his idiosyncratic weaving methods and his flair for combining unlikely partners: Prince of Wales check with baroque embroidery, denim and diamante. Showing his fabrics, prints, applique and embroidery in close-up, this section focuses on the detail of Versace's craftsmanship . The stylish page design gives each section its own distinctive look. The paperback cover opens out into page size flaps which feature a colourful parade of images to delight fashion lovers and students alike..

Brothers Tonight We Sing the Chorus Free---The Untold Story Behind The University Of Buffalo 1958 Lambert Cup Champions
For over a century, the University of Buffalo football program languished as an aside to academics, but that all changed in 1954 when Chancelor Clifford Furnas, a former Olympic athlete, hired coach Dick Offenhamer and authorized football scholarships. The coach recruited a group of the nation's top athletes and by 1958, the football team was the number small college in the East and awarded the Lambert Cup. An invitation was made by the then Tangerine Bowl, now the Citrus Bowl, to play Florida State. The bid was accepted and the pre Buffalo Bills City of Buffalo and the University were euphoric. However, within a week, it all came crashing down when the bowl committee advised the University that the two black players on the Buffalo team were not allowed to compete with white players because of a clause in the contract an because of the Jim Crow laws. The decision to attend was left up to the players who rejected the bid, without thought of personal acclaim and without regrets, all for the love of and out of respect for their two black teammates, who were actually bonded as brothers. But the story does not end here. The true legacy of this event is the story of how this group of men were positively affected by this deed for the next five decades and how the bond continues. The title of the book is taken from the chorus of the school alma mater--"Brothers Tonight, We Sing The Chorus Free", which now has a true meaning. Rocco L. Versace, UB graduate--1964.
